Job DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Asheville, North Carolina.Job Description & RequirementsSpecialty: ICU - Intensive Care UnitDiscipline: RNStart Date: 06/08/2026Duration: 13 weeks36 hours per weekShift: 12 hours, nightsEmployment Type: TravelAssignment OverviewShift: Nights, 3x12hrsHours: 36 hrs/wkStart Date: Jun 8, 2026Length: 13 weeksOpenings: 1DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a travel CICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with vents, pressors, and hemodynamic monitoring.DetailsWork in a 16-bed Cardiac ICU (CICU) at a Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center in Asheville, NCPatient population includes complex cardiac cases requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and critical care interventionsPatient ratios are 2:1 or 1:1, with occasional 3:1 depending on acuityEquipment used includes ventilators, telemetry, Baxter IV pumps, IABP, CRRT, Impella, and hypothermia devicesDocumentation system: CernerNight shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours/weekAlternating weekend requirementTravelers are required to float to all areas of the facilityProcedures performed on the unit include cardioversion, central line insertion, EGD, bronchoscopy, chest tube insertions, pericardiocentesis, and thoracentesisRequirementsActive NC RN license or compact RN license requiredCurrent BLS (AHA or ARC) required; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignmentNIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for ICU RNsMinimum 2 years of recent ICU experience requiredProficiency in titration of vesicant medications, pressors, sedation, and paralytics requiredExperience with ventilators and tracheostomies requiredTelemetry interpretation skills requiredUnderstanding of hemodynamics, PA catheter setup, and interpretation requiredCCRN certification is recommended but not required; IABP, Impella, and CRRT experience are highly desirableUS SSN and date of birth required for considerationOne professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)Additional InformationThe CICU is an RN-only unit — no unit secretaries or patient care technicians are availableDesirable advanced skills include IABP management, Impella support, and CRRTAdditional skills of interest include transvenous pacing, cardioversion, TEE assistance, and chest tube maintenanceScrub color requirement: all navy or navy and white; no pullovers, hoodies, or green scrubsCandidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligibleNo employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 monthsAmerican Traveler Job ID #P-711577.
