Job SummaryAs a RN you will coordinate total patient centered care ensuring optimal service to the communities we serve.As an RN in the Pre Post Cath Recovery Area you will have the ability to work with many different units and is a multi-disciplinary unit that provides inpatient and outpatient care to cardiology, vascular surgery, and cardiothoracic surgery patients. The Pre Post Cath Lab Recovery Unit is an 18-bed unit that supports all levels of care including but not limited to pre procedure, intra procedure, and post procedure (phase I and phase II) care. The exceptional patient care provided in our Heart and Vascular Services area supports not only our local community but supports north central West Virginia. The teamwork and collaboration does not stop between nursing and ancillary staff; the teamwork and collaboration with Advanced Professional Providers and Physicians helps provide patient-centered, guideline and study-proven care each and every time. The Pre Post Cath Recovery Area is a closed unit that provides the opportunity for cross-training and expanding the role of the nurse, by offering the opportunity to become certified and specialty-trained in cardiology and moderate sedation. This position will have the ability and flexibility to cross train to the radiology department, stress lab, and cath lab which opens a realm of experience to advance your career.ResponsibilitiesAssessment: The registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the healthcare consumer's health and/or situation by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Diagnosis: The registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses or the issues by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Outcomes Identification: The registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the healthcare consumer or the situation by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Planning: The registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternative to attain expected outcomes by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Implementation: The registered nurse implements the identified plan by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Evaluation: The registered nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes by providing an extraordinary patient experience, compassionate care and clinical excellence one patient at a time.Moderate Sedation: With direction from the physician, the Registered Nurse will provide moderate sedation to patients undergoing a procedure. The Registered Nurse will follow hospital policy to provide safe and effective medication administration within their scope of practice. With experience, the Registered Nurse will be able to expand their career with obtaining their moderate sedation certification.Understanding Cardiology Procedures: The Registered Nurse will learn and understand procedures performed in heart and vascular services. This allows the nurse to educate and teach the patient and their family members pre and post education. This will also teach the nurse to understand what procedures they are involved in to expand their knowledge.Physical Assessment: The Registered Nurse will provide a modified physical assessment based on the procedure the patient is receiving. They will learn post procedure wound care and provide education to the patient regarding wound care. The Registered Nurse will learn post procedure complications and alert providers with any issues/concerns.Interpersonal Skills: The Registered Nurse will provide care with a multi-disciplinary approach to provide safe and effective care for our patients. The Registered Nurse will work alongside with Radiology Technologists and Ultrasound Technologists to communicate the procedure and pre/post care to patients.Laboratory Testing and Proficient IV Placement Skills: The Registered Nurse in Pre Post Cath Recovery will provide i-STAT testing pre and post procedure and become proficient in IV placement skills. For a majority of the procedures in heart and vascular services, patients need IVs for sedation, IV hydration, or contrast administration during their stay in the Pre Post Cath Recovery.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesEffective interpersonal communication skills in order to effectively collaborate with physicians, and instruct patients and their families.Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly.1-year minimum experience in telemetry, stepdown, critical care, emergency department, procedural area required.
