Physician AssistantIowa Orthopedic Center is actively seeking a Physician Assistant for our Sports and Medicine practice. Physician assistants are vital members of the Iowa Ortho health care team. This position will provide assistance to surgeons and assist with a variety of medical tasks to ensure all patients receive the best care possible.This individual will be decisive, self-driven, and dynamic; also, willing to be mentored, trained, and developed to achieve high performance and personal satisfaction.Key Responsibilities:Provides primary or specialty medical care with the supervision of a physicianProvides services by collecting data required for diagnosis and performing authorized and approved procedures and servicesClinic assistance: new patients, follow ups, post-ops, MRI rechecks, U/S guided injectionsSurgery assistance, wound closure, patient positioning, active role during surgerySports Coverage: up to 15 events per yearCall: 2 times per monthObtains and evaluates medical histories, performs physical examinations, performs therapeutic and diagnostic proceduresCounsels patients on medical problems, use of drugs, expected effects of treatment, and other health maintenance mattersMakes entries in patient's permanent medical recordsCoordinates patient care with other members of health care teamAccomplishes narrative summaries and other documentationRequirementsThe principles and processed for providing customer and personal servicesApplicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations including the requirements of the HIPAA and OSHA and applicable state rules and regulations pertinent to medical practicesComputerized information systems used in business applications and clinical management systems (EMR)Relevant drugs and their chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergoNon-pharmaceutical patient care aids, their applicable uses, and relevance to patient careCurrent principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatmentAccreditation and certification requirements and the ability to maintain all appropriate licensesPerform duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of applicable State Board of Medicine and other regulating bodiesPrescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methodsRespond to requests and inquiries from the general public in person and over the telephoneInterpret the application of OSHA and HIPAA laws.
