With a strong reputation for delivering innovative software and services, we are experiencing rapid growth driven by increasing client demand.As we enter this exciting phase of expansion, we are looking to add a Controller to our team who can help build and scale our financial operations to support continued success.Position SummaryThe Controller will serve as the senior accounting and financial operations leader for a privately held, global consulting organization with approximately 200 employees. This is a hands-on role responsible for building, managing, and executing all core accounting and financial processes in the absence of a formal accounting department.The Controller will assume responsibility for key financial functions currently managed by the President, including invoicing, collections, payroll oversight, expense management, and purchase order tracking. This individual will ensure financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and compliance across multiple international entities.Key Responsibilities Financial Operations & CloseOwn and execute all accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, and reconciliationsPrepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statementsEstablish and maintain a timely and accurate financial close processDevelop accounting policies and internal controls from the ground up Billing, Invoicing & Revenue TrackingOversee client invoicing processes (project-based and/or time & materials)Ensure billing accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with contracts and purchase ordersTrack revenue recognition and project profitabilityPartner with project managers to ensure proper documentation and billing compliance Collections & Cash ManagementManage accounts receivable and lead collections effortsMonitor cash flow and maintain short- and long-term cash forecastsImplement processes to improve Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)Maintain relationships with clients regarding billing and payment issues Payroll & Employee CompensationOversee payroll processing for U.S. and international employees (via vendors or PEOs as applicable)Ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and employment regulationsCoordinate benefits administration and related accounting Expense & Purchase Order ManagementImplement and manage expense reporting processes and policiesTrack and monitor employee expenses and company spendingOversee purchase order system usage, ensuring proper approvals and budget alignmentIdentify cost-saving opportunities and ensure spending discipline Global Entity OversightManage financial activities across multiple international entities (U.S., Puerto Rico, Canada, Ireland, France, Germany, Turkey, and India)Coordinate with local advisors on tax, compliance, and statutory reporting requirementsEnsure appropriate consolidations and intercompany accountingMonitor foreign currency impacts and compliance with local regulations Compliance, Tax & AuditCoordinate with external accountants for tax preparation and filings in all jurisdictionsEnsure compliance with applicable financial regulations and reporting requirementsSupport audits, including preparation of schedules and documentationMaintain proper internal controls and financial governance practices Systems & Process ImprovementEvaluate and implement accounting and financial systems (ERP, billing, expense tools)Establish scalable processes to support company growthImprove automation and reporting capabilitiesCreate dashboards and financial insights for leadership Leadership & Business PartnershipServe as a key financial advisor to the President and leadership teamProvide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations for decision-makingGradually build and manage a small accounting/finance team as the company growsRelieve the President of day-to-day financial operational responsibilitiesQualifications & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2-3 years in a Controller or similar roleSolid experience working with QuickBooksExperience in consulting, professional services, or project-based business strongly preferredDemonstrated ability to operate as a hands-on contributor in a lean environmentExperience managing multi-entity and international accounting operationsStrong understanding of revenue recognition, invoicing, and project-based financial managementFamiliarity with global payroll and compliance requirementsKey CompetenciesOwnership & Accountability: Comfortable building and owning the entire accounting functionProcess Builder: Able to create structure where none existsDetail-Oriented: Ensures accuracy and completeness in all financial activitiesOperationally Minded: Balances accounting rigor with business practicalityCommunication: Ability to interact effectively with leadership, project teams, and external partnersAdaptability: Thrives in a growing, evolving organizationSuccess Measures (First 12 Months)Transition core financial responsibilities from the President smoothlyEstablish reliable monthly close and reporting cadenceImprove billing efficiency and reduce collection timelinesImplement scalable financial systems and controlsProvide clear visibility into company financial performance and cash flowLocation & Work EnvironmentOn-site in Stillwater, MNRegular coordination across global offices and time zones requiredCompensation & BenefitsBase salary $125,000 to $150k depending on experience10% performance bonus100% employer-paid medical coverage for employees and familiesSEP retirement contribution of 15% of salaryPaid time off and holidays
