Recreation Assistant - Facility Attendant
Position DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation, and Aquatics Director, this position is broken into two key areas – 1) Concessions: oversee concessions operations at City facilities, including preparation, service, inventory management, and processing electronic payments. Ensure compliance with established health, safety, and operational guidelines. Concessions are seasonal (May – September), offering up to 40 hours per week, with primary shifts in the afternoons and weekends. Scheduling flexibility is required. Rental Attendant: support for rental facilities, ensuring event spaces are set up, maintained, and properly secured before and after use. May also include assistance with city-run events. This position primarily works weekends into the late evening and some weeknights. Hours vary based on rental needs (0-20 hours per week)Reports directly to the Recreation Manager.Essential DutiesPerform light custodial duties, including cleaning counters, equipment, and areas after use.Explain and enforce City policies, rules, and regulations to patrons.Assist in monitoring and maintaining equipment, reporting issues to the supervisor as necessary.Interact professionally with customers, providing excellent service and resolving minor complaints or issues.Ensure compliance with all applicable City, County, and State laws and City ordinances, policies, and procedures at all times.Respond calmly and effectively to emergency situations.Attend all required in-services and training sessions.Perform other duties as assigned.CONCESSION DUTIES (if assigned):Operate and oversee the daily functions of concession stands, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with health and safety guidelines.Prepare and serve food and beverages according to proper handling and hygiene standards.Set up and restock concession areas, including inventory management of food, beverages, and supplies.Process electronic payments efficiently and securely using point-of-sale (POS) systems.Maintain proper storage of supplies and equipment according to health and safety regulations.Assist in monitoring inventory levels, placing orders, and receiving deliveries for concession operations.RENTAL ATTENDANT DUTIES (if assigned):Set up and take down tables, chairs, and AV equipment as needed.Greet renters, provide assistance, and ensure a positive experience.Monitor facility use and enforce rental policies.Clean and restock restrooms, kitchens, and common areas.Remove trash and ensure the facility is tidy before and after events.Respond to renter questions, safety concerns, or emergencies.Report maintenance or equipment issues to the appropriate staff.Complete rental checklists and incident reports.Education, Experience & Other RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTSHigh School Diploma.Minimum one-year experience in customer service, preferably in food service or concessions.Required Licenses/Training:Must be at least 18 years old at time of hire.Valid driver’s licenseFood Handler’s Permit (or ability to obtain upon hire).Certification in First Aid, CPR, AED, and blood-borne pathogens (or ability to obtain upon hire).Other Preferred Skills (not required):Bilingual ability beneficial.EnvironmentIndoor and outdoor work environment, including exposure to varying temperatures and food service equipment.May include high heat and humidity near concession equipment.Physical AbilitiesAbility to lift up to 50 pounds.Standing for extended periods.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate concession equipment.Bending, reaching, and kneeling to access inventory and supplies.Knowledge OfFood safety and hygiene practices.Concession stand operations, including POS systems for credit card transactions and inventory management.Safety standards for food preparation and equipment use.Ability ToPrepare and serve food in a clean, organized, and efficient manner.Operate concession equipment, including cash registers and basic food preparation appliances.Handle credit card transactions accurately and securely.Interact effectively and professionally with a diverse range of customers and staff.Respond calmly and effectively to customer inquiries and emergencies.Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.Demonstrate effective problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.Maintain compliance with health, safety, and City guidelines.Communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Union Status: Non-RepresentedFLSA Status: Non-exempt Salary RangeAdoptedLast Revised: 01/31/2025Class Code: 512The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the principal functions for the job, the level of knowledge, skill and ability typically required and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements.
