Assistant Director of Broadcast Operations & Engineering
OverviewThis role is responsible for leading the technical execution of live broadcasts and in-venue productions across ESPN+, linear networks, and videoboard shows. The position serves as Engineer in Charge (EIC) for live events and plays a critical role in maintaining and evolving Villanova Athletics’ broadcast infrastructure.This position supports production across 13 Division I sports and approximately 175 live events annually, operating within a fast-paced, high-performance environment.ResponsibilitiesBroadcast & EngineeringServe as Engineer in Charge (EIC) for live broadcasts and videoboard showsLead control room and venue technical setup, configuration, and executionManage broadcast infrastructure including routers, servers, and production systemsMaintain and troubleshoot video, audio, and signal flow systemsSupport ESPN+ and linear transmission workflowsOversee videoboard systems and in-venue display operationsProvide technical leadership to event crews to ensure high-quality executionOperations & CollaborationCoordinate with internal departments and external partnersProvide technical support to coaches, staff, and stakeholdersContribute to improvements in production workflows and system designAssist in the evolution of broadcast infrastructure, including IP-based and next-generation workflowsStaffing & AdministrationRecruit, train, and supervise freelance staff and internsManage scheduling and payroll operations for production crewsQualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree requiredExperienceExperience in broadcast engineering, live production, or related environmentsSkillsStrong understanding of video/audio systems, routing, and signal flowAbility to operate effectively in fast-paced live production environmentsStrong communication and leadership skillsPreferred ExperienceExperience with ESPN+ or similar digital broadcast workflowsFamiliarity with Ross, Evertz, or comparable broadcast systemsExperience in live sports production environments
