CNA Instructor-Must be an LVN or RN with current DSD Certification
To teach CNA classes in California, you need an active California RN or LVN license, at least two years of nursing experience, including one year in direct patient care in a long-term care or similar setting, and must be approved by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH). You also need a curriculum approved by the state, and you may need to complete a minimum of 24 hours of continuing education in planning and evaluating educational programs unless you have a nursing teaching credential.
License and Experience
License: You must hold a current and unencumbered California Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license.
Experience: You need a minimum of two years of nursing experience as an RN or LVN, with at least one of those years involving direct patient care in a long-term care setting, such as a skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, or hospice.
