Production Superintendent - Boning 2nd shiftSummaryThe Boning Superintendent - 2nd Shift directs and coordinates manufacturing activities through direct-report supervisory personnel, utilizing deep knowledge of product flow, production methods, and plant capabilities at Indiana Packers Corporation. This role is responsible for driving safe, compliant, and efficient operations while leading continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives with a strong focus on safety, productivity, quality, training, development, and succession planning.ResponsibilitiesPlan, direct, and prioritize production activities to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.Lead and sustain Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing initiatives with a focus on safety, productivity, waste reduction, standard work, and employee engagement.Create and foster a high-morale, inclusive workplace by treating all team members with dignity, respect, and the highest ethical standards.Coordinate production activities with Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Sanitation to optimize throughput, yields, and resource utilization.Review and analyze production metrics (yields, downtime, labor efficiency, waste, rework, and safety trends) to identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.Partner with the Safety Manager to maintain and enforce departmental safety programs; ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety standards, and PPE requirements.Collaborate with the Operations Manager and/or Plant Manager to develop and implement operating methods and procedures that improve safety, quality, productivity, and compliance.Ensure adherence to all QA, food safety, and regulatory requirements, including FDA/USDA regulations, customer specifications, and internal policies.Revise production schedules and priorities as needed due to equipment failures, operating issues, staffing challenges, or changing customer demands.Lead, coach, and develop Production Supervisors; ensure effective cross training, skills development, and succession planning.Establish individual and team goals, clarify accountabilities, and evaluate performance for direct reports; review and approve performance evaluations for indirect reports.Oversee departmental labor and operating costs to ensure performance within approved budgets.Utilize structured problem-solving methods, process control tools, and cross-functional teamwork to meet or exceed production targets.Partner with Human Resources to address employee relations matters in accordance with company policies; participate in recruitment, selection, and retention of manufacturing personnel.Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and operational excellence.RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred.Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership or management experience in a protein manufacturing environment preferred; manufacturing experience required.Strong background in Continuous Improvement and/or Lean Manufacturing methodologies.Proven experience leading teams with a focus on safety, quality, training, development, and succession planning.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing environment while managing multiple priorities.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Results-driven, employee-oriented leadership style.Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and production reporting systems.Flexibility to work a variety of shifts and extended hours, including weekends and overtime.Commitment to following all safety policies, food safety requirements, and ethical standards.Willingness to attend training, classes, or professional development as required.All employees are expected to adhere to their scheduled working hours and attend work consistently to ensure smooth operations and effective teamwork.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a manufacturing environment that includes moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and varying temperatures. The noise level can be loud, and hearing protection is required. The role involves regular exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, and odorous conditions, including occasional outdoor exposure and inclement weather.Physical Demand:The physical demands described here represent those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The role requires standing and walking for extended periods, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials, and working under physically demanding conditions.
