Upper & Middle School STEM Teacher (Grades 6–12)CSS • Full-Time • Reports to Upper School DirectorAbout the RoleCSS is seeking an innovative and passionate educator to join our Upper School faculty as a full-time STEM Teacher for grades 6–12. This is an exciting opportunity for a creative, student-centered teacher who thrives on hands-on, project-based learning and wants to play a meaningful role in advancing our STEM program.The primary focus of this role is technology and engineering — designing and delivering curriculum that challenges students to think like engineers, build real-world solutions, and develop fluency with modern tools and systems. The position also incorporates foundational science and math concepts as they connect to and support the technology/engineering strand. Candidates with industry backgrounds in engineering, technology, or computer science are strongly encouraged to apply.The ideal candidate brings a broad STEM skill set and is energized by the challenge of designing authentic, real-world learning experiences for adolescents. This position reports directly to the Upper School Director and/or Assistant Division Director.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering, technology, computer science, or a related STEM field; industry experience in engineering or technology welcomed in lieu of or alongside a teaching backgroundDemonstrated ability to design and teach technology and/or engineering curriculum, including hands-on, design-thinking, or maker-based approachesExperience teaching middle or high school students (grades 6–12 preferred); familiarity with supporting science and math concepts a plusDeep familiarity with 21st-century STEM instruction trends for adolescent learners, including areas such as coding, CAD, robotics, or electronicsStrong skills in project-based learning, collaboration, communication, and educational technologyAn innovative, growth-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous improvementRoles and ResponsibilitiesCurriculum & InstructionDesign and deliver a differentiated, globally integrated STEM curriculum with a primary focus on technology and engineering — including design thinking, applied problem-solving, and real-world project work — supported by foundational science and math conceptsTake a student-centered approach, providing responsive instruction and adjusting plans to meet the needs of individual learnersUse a variety of assessment types to monitor student growth and provide regular, meaningful feedbackStay current on STEM instructional research and bring new approaches into the classroomCommunity & AdvisingPotentially serve as an advisor for a group of 8–10 students, supporting their academic, extracurricular, social, and personal development and serving as the school’s primary liaison to their familiesServe as an instructor in CSS’s signature experiential learning opportunities, both on campus and in the field, which may occasionally require travelPromote a culture of character, curiosity, and community in all student interactions, including consistent and fair enforcement of school expectationsBe involved in the broader school community and contribute to our Community of Belonging in both formal and informal waysProfessional ResponsibilitiesAttend all required faculty, department, and school-wide meetingsCollaborate actively with colleagues and seek feedback in a spirit of continuous professional growthComplete grades, narrative comments, advisor letters, and other academic communications in a timely and professional mannerMaintain accurate assessment records and communicate proactively with students and families about progressKnow your students well — their developmental stages, academic strengths, and learning needs — and use that knowledge to inform instruction and relationshipsCompensationSalary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $48,000 to $63,000.
