High School Principal
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Principal provides instructional and operational leadership to create a positive, safe learning environment that supports the success of all students. The Principal leads and supervises school personnel and programs; promotes effective communication among staff, students, and families; supports and evaluates staff performance; fosters a collaborative school culture; and manages key operational responsibilities including staffing and budget oversight.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Leadership & Professional Practice
Demonstrates strong leadership, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
Demonstrates reflection & commitment to continuous improvement of professional practice.
Collaborates with other building principals in the K-12 setting.
Attends required training necessary for the position to understand district processes and expectations.
Creates and implements operational systems and structures aligned with the district’s vision and mission.
Instructional Leadership & Student Achievement
Establishes systems to plan, implement, and monitor effective instruction.
Leads the development and implementation of standards-based curriculum, assessment, and instructional practices that support college and career readiness.
Monitors student achievement through data analysis and lead the development of intervention programs for students needing additional support.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the new Indiana diploma requirements and grading system.
Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
Inspires commitment to high levels of student achievement by fostering a respectful and trusting learning community.
Personnel Leadership & Development
Evaluates certified and classified staff through observations, feedback, and performance monitoring.
Recruits and hires highly qualified staff whose skills align with school needs.
Ensures aligned professional development and leadership opportunities for all staff.
Supervises and evaluates the assistant principal and athletic director.
School Operations & Compliance
Manages daily school operations, including scheduling, facility management, and adherence to district policies and procedures.
Ensures the school operates in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to special education, Title IX, and other legal requirements.
Sets annual goals, tracks key performance indicators, and reports progress to the Superintendent and School Board.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement
Demonstrates strong communication skills and effectively engages stakeholders.
Serves as the primary liaison between the school and community while fostering positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.
Demonstrates understanding of and commitment to cultural diversity and responsiveness.
School Culture & Student Management
Oversees the school’s discipline policy and manages student behavior in a way that promotes a positive and safe learning environment.
Additional Responsibilities
Attends and supports after-hours high school events such as athletic competitions, fine arts performances, graduation activities, academic ceremonies, and other extracurricular programs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
