A Day in the Life of the Structural & Civil Engineer
In this role, you’ll take the lead on designing, analyzing, and managing a variety of civil and structural projects throughout Eugene and the surrounding Pacific Northwest region. From local site development to structural systems, your work will have a visible impact on the communities you serve.
You’ll collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, surveyors, and planners, ensuring projects are safe, efficient, and aligned with Oregon regulations and environmental considerations. Your contributions will support the delivery of high-quality, practical engineering solutions for both public and private sector clients.
Responsibilities include:
Creating structural and civil designs using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
Performing engineering calculations to ensure stability and code compliance
Evaluating materials and construction methods for efficiency and regional suitability
Leading projects from concept through completion, managing timelines and budgets
Coordinating with clients, architects, contractors, and local stakeholders
Conducting site inspections to verify compliance with design documents and safety standards
Ensuring adherence to Oregon building codes, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines
Troubleshooting issues that arise during construction
Preparing technical reports, calculations, proposals, and project documentation
Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, or at least 5 years of relevant experience
Professional Engineering (PE) license in Oregon or an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) working toward licensure
Proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D
Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and safety standards
Proven experience managing projects from start to finish, including reviewing shop drawings and submittals
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
