This is a non-benefited, part-time hourly/temporary position.Application Deadline: Open Until Filled Hourly Recruitment. Early application is encouraged.Hourly Rate: $23.00 per hour; Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 12 hours per week for a period of 12 months, the hours are flexible.THE POSITIONUnder supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTIONThe ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projectsPerforms electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applicationsConducts internet research and research of engineering record archivesProcesses permits and reviews land development plansAssists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasksAssists with internal and external communications and public outreachLearns to assist with engineering plan reviews and traffic control plansPerforms other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying.
