Senior Estimator, Mechanical & Plumbing Contractor

Senior Estimator Mechanical & Plumbing Contractor Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction and estimating efforts for a premier mechanical contractor specializing in HVAC, piping, and plumbing construction and service. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will directly influence project success, profitability, and long-term growth. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction Prepare detailed cost estimates for HVAC, piping, plumbing, and mechanical systems Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications Analyze labor productivity, wage scales, and local work rules Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing Develop conceptual, budgetary, negotiated, and hard-bid estimates Attend pre-bid meetings, job walks, and coordination meetings Identify value engineering options while maintaining contract compliance Compliance & Coordination Expertise Interpret labor agreements to ensure accurate costing Account for prevailing wage, certified payroll, and project labor requirements Coordinate with internal leadership and external partners Understand trade boundaries and multi-trade coordination Service & Retrofit Estimating Prepare estimates for service projects, retrofits, tenant improvements, and maintenance agreements Collaborate with service managers to define scope and labor requirements Develop pricing strategies for T&M, negotiated, and emergency response work Project Turnover & Support Provide detailed scope breakdowns, labor assumptions, and risk assessments to project management Assist with change order pricing and major scope revisions Support project teams with cost tracking feedback and post-bid analysis Leadership & Collaboration Mentor junior estimators and contribute to team development Maintain strong relationships with partners, contractors, engineers, and suppliers Participate in bid/no-bid strategy and market analysis Qualifications 710+ years of mechanical/plumbing estimating experience Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping systems, plumbing codes, and installation practices Experience estimating public, healthcare, industrial, commercial, or institutional projects Proficiency in estimating software (Trimble, FastPIPE, Bluebeam, or similar) Ability to manage multiple bids in a deadline-driven environment Key Competencies Strong understanding of labor productivity and cost modeling Strategic bid development and risk assessment High accuracy and attention to detail Excellent negotiation and communication skills Leadership and mentoring ability Compensation & Benefits We offer more than just a rolewe offer a career where high performers are recognized, rewarded, and given the opportunity to grow into leadership positions within a rapidly expanding organization.
