Network Engineer (Senior / Midlevel)

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Network Engineer to join our local IT infrastructure team in Columbus, OH. In this role, you will be responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, optimization, and security of our local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), and wireless infrastructure.Because this is a local role supporting our Columbus-area offices and data centers, the ideal candidate must be based in the Greater Columbus area and comfortable providing occasional hands-on, on-site hardware support when required.Note : W2 OnlyKey ResponsibilitiesNetwork Maintenance & Operations: Design, configure, install, and maintain core network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points (APs).Local Infrastructure Support: Provide on-site and remote troubleshooting for local campus connectivity, local data centers, and VPN environments.Performance Monitoring: Proactively monitor network traffic and performance to optimize uptime, resolve bottlenecks, and ensure 24/7 reliability.Network Security: Implement and enforce robust network security policies, manage firewall rules (e.g., Palo Alto, Cisco), and maintain secure access controls.Incident Resolution: Act as a primary point of escalation to diagnose and resolve complex network outages or performance degradation swiftly.Documentation: Create and maintain precise topology diagrams, hardware inventories, IP tracking, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).Vendor & Circuit Management: Collaborate with local internet service providers (ISPs) and hardware vendors to manage circuits, perform upgrades, and coordinate hardware replacements (RMAs).Required Skills & QualificationsExperience: 6+ years of progressive experience in network engineering or a closely related infrastructure role.Routing & Switching: Deep understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).Hardware Proficiency: Hands-on experience configuring enterprise-grade hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, or similar).Security & Firewalls: Solid understanding of network security principles, VLAN segmentation, and next-generation firewall administration.Location Requirements: Must reside locally in the Greater Columbus area with reliable transportation to commute to local office sites or data centers as needed.Communication: Strong communication skills to effectively translate complex technical issues to non-technical stakeholders and work efficiently within a team.Preferred QualificationsCertifications: CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or JNCIA.Cloud & Automation: Experience with hybrid cloud networking (AWS/Azure) or basic scripting (Python, Ansible) for automated network provisioning
