Job TypeInternshipDescriptionOVERVIEWCadrex is searching for a CNC Programming Intern who supports the engineering and manufacturing teams in developing, optimizing, and maintaining CNC programs for production. This role provides hands-on experience with CNC machining processes, CAM software, and shop floor operations. The intern will assist in improving machining efficiency, ensuring program accuracy, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position is ideal for students pursuing careers in manufacturing engineering, machining, or related technical fields who are seeking practical, real-world experience in a fast-paced production environment. This will be a 29 hour per week, 11-week internship.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in creating and editing CNC programs using CAM software for milling, turning, or multi-axis machining centersSupport program validation through simulation, test runs, and shop floor prove-outsReview technical drawings, models, and specifications to ensure program accuracy and completenessMake minor program adjustments to improve cycle time, tool paths, and machining efficiencyWork closely with machinists, setup technicians, and engineers to troubleshoot machining issuesObserve and support machine setups, tool changes, and first-piece inspectionsAssist in documenting standard work instructions, setup sheets, and tooling requirementsParticipate in daily production meetings or shift handoffs as applicableSupport initiatives focused on reducing cycle time, scrap, and tool wearCollect and analyze basic production data to identify improvement opportunitiesAssist in organizing and maintaining program libraries and revision control systemsContribute to 5S and lean manufacturing activities within the machining areaFollow all safety policies and procedures while working in the manufacturing environmentSupport adherence to quality standards by verifying program outputs and part conformanceAssist in root cause investigations related to machining defects or inconsistenciesRequirementsPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBasic understanding of CNC machining principles (milling, turning, tooling, feeds and speeds)Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks CAM, or similar) preferredAbility to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprintsStrong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a hands-on environmentGood communication and teamwork skillsEDUCATIONCurrently enrolled in relevant programLOCATIONOnsiteSCHEDULEM-FWORK ENVIRONMENTWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and vibration.
