Part-Time Receptionist (Temp)
Position Overview:The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is opening its 381 Lafayette space to the public for a pilot program of open hours over three consecutive Saturdays. We are seeking a temporary part-time Receptionist to assist with the program, serving as the first point of contact for visitors and providing administrative support to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience. Candidates must be on-site and available for pre-event training and all three Saturdays (tentatively: 10/5, 11/2, and 12/7/2024) of the pilot program.As a Part-Time Receptionist, you will play a key role in managing visitor check-in, answering questions, and providing information about the Foundation's mission, exhibitions, and Robert Rauschenberg's work. You will work closely with the Part-Time Gallery Attendants and internal RRF staff to support visitor engagement and logistical tasks, including assisting with setup and breakdown during public hours. The hours for this role are approximately 12–6 PM on three Saturdays. The receptionist will undergo a pre-training with a member of the internal curatorial team to prepare for this role. A genuine interest in Robert Rauschenberg and his artistic legacy is essential.Pilot Program Work Schedule:1 Pre-Training Session (Week of Sept 30th)3 Saturdays: Oct 5th, Nov 2nd, Dec 7th from 12–6 PMEssential Duties & Responsibilities:Provide a welcoming and informative presence for visitors exploring the exhibitions at 381 Lafayette.Undergo training with internal RRF staff members to gain knowledge of the Foundation's exhibitions, mission, and Robert Rauschenberg's artistic contributions.Assist with setup and breakdown of the gallery space before and after public hours.Enforce gallery rules and regulations to ensure the protection of the artworks and the safety of visitors.Assist with visitor inquiries and provide information about the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation's history, exhibitions, and the artist's work.Support special events, VIP visits, and collaborate with staff as needed.Monitor crowd flow and maintain an orderly gallery environment.Skills & Experience Required:High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework in art or a related field preferred.Strong customer service experience with the ability to engage with the public professionally and enthusiastically.A genuine interest in Robert Rauschenberg's life and work is required.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Must be available for all three Saturdays of the pilot program.Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.Must be able to lift/carry or move up to 25 lbs.Experience working in a gallery or museum setting is a plus.ADA Specifications:As the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is located in a historic building, entrance to the office requires the ability to walk up 13 steps.Must be available for training with a member of the internal curatorial team prior to the start of the program.Required to stand for extended periods in the gallery spaces.Must be comfortable in a dynamic environment with varying lighting levels and temperatures.Compensation: $20 per hourAs an equal opportunity employer and in our commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive work environment, the Rauschenberg Foundation strives to attract a diverse mix of talented people.
