Linux Embedded Software Engineer

This position requires highly focused expertise in software development and electronics integration, while also requiring generalist familiarity and curiosity across many cross-functional domains to facilitate close collaboration with electrical, mechanical, and biological teams.Role ResponsibilitiesArchitect, develop, and maintain high quality system-level software for embedded Linux systemsBring up application-level drivers for sensors and actuators against datasheets using protocols and I/O such as I²C, SPI, CAN, Modbus RTU, TCP/IP, analog, GPIO, etc.Design, build, and maintain web-based real-time GUI consoles and dashboards for visualization and controlCollaborate with hardware engineers to incorporate custom, in-house designed electronics to accomplish previously unsolved tasksCollaborate with biologists to understand key physical and physiological system dynamicsCreate and manage virtual and physical test bed infrastructureStay up-to-date with the latest developments in relevant technologiesKey Qualifications4+ years of experience building, debugging, and shipping embedded Linux systemsBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related fieldExpert in C and/or C++ programmingUnderstanding of low-level operating system conceptsExperience debugging complex issues across integrated software and hardwareSkilled in maximally utilizing the latest AI developments to enhance progressPreferred QualificationsExpert in Rust programmingFamiliarity with Linux build systems such as Yocto or BuildrootPrior experience modifying or contributing to Linux kernel drivers or modulesExperience with networking and distributed systemsFamiliarity with web developmentFamiliarity with frontend UI/UX designSalary/Pay RangeScience is required under California law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. We determine your level based on your interview performance and make an offer based on the indicated salary band. The base salary range for this full-time position is $130,000 – $200,000 annually + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by several factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
