Germany - Postdoctoral Researcher in Cancer Immunology at University of Regensburg

PhdfinderUniversity, FLApril 24th, 2026
OverviewThe University of Regensburg invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in Cancer Immunology on a full-time, three-year appointment. The role focuses on developing adjuvant CAR T cell therapies to prevent melanoma metastasis, translating discoveries into clinical strategies. Funding is provided by German Cancer Aid (DKH) and the salary follows the German public service pay scale (TV-L E13). Deadline for applications: 20 April 2026.About the UniversityThe University of Regensburg, located in the historic city of Regensburg, Germany, is a research-driven institution with over 20,000 students. It offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment, extensive infrastructure, and strong support for early-career scientists.Research Topic and SignificanceThe project, chaired by Dr. Melanie Werner-Klein, addresses the urgent need to eliminate disseminated tumour cells before they form overt metastases. By engineering CAR T cells targeting melanoma metastatic founder cells, the research bridges fundamental tumour immunology, metastasis biology, and clinical application of cell therapy.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and lead an independent research project on adjuvant CAR T cell therapies for melanoma metastasis.Establish and optimise preclinical in-vivo cancer models.Perform advanced genetic engineering of T cells.Analyse complex datasets and translate experimental findings into clinically relevant strategies.Publish results in high-impact international journals.Candidate ProfilePhD in tumour immunology, cancer biology, molecular medicine, or a closely related field.Strong scientific interest in cancer immunotherapy and metastasis biology.Hands-on experience with pre-clinical in-vivo cancer models (required).Experience in T-cell biology and/or CAR T-cell engineering (highly desirable).Ability to work independently and drive research projects with high motivation.Excellent command of English (written and spoken); German language skills are advantageous but not mandatory.Strong publication record and ability to translate experimental findings into clinically meaningful insights.Application ProcessApplicants should submit the following documents by the 20 April 2026 deadline:Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications.A letter of recommendation or contact details of 2–3 referees.A brief statement (maximum ½ page) outlining research experience and motivation for a postdoctoral career, specifically addressing metastasis research.Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if their suitability is essentially equal. Please note that the university cannot cover any costs incurred during the interview process. For further details and to apply, visit the official advertisement: https://www.nature.com/naturecareers/job/12856752/postdoctoral-researcher-m-f-d-translational-cancer-immunology-car-t-cell-therapy-/Also SeeComprehensive Guide to Graduate Application Deadlines for US Universities (Fall 2026 Intake)Sweden – PhD in NK Cell Immunotherapy at Karolinska InstitutetFrance – PhD in Tumor Mechanobiology at Université Paris-SaclaySweden – Postdoc in Immunotechnology at Lund UniversityGermany – PhD in Experimental Single-Cell Genomics at Helmholtz MunichJ-18808-Ljbffr
