About the Role
Austin Tarp & Cargo Controls is seeking a Trailer Mechanic to install, service, and repair truck and trailer tarping systems. This role is entirely shop-based and offers training and all necessary tools provided. If you have strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy hands-on work, this is a great opportunity to build skills in a specialized trade with long-term demand.
Key Responsibilities
Install tarp systems on semi-trucks, dump trucks, and tractor-trailers
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on trailer tarping systems
Troubleshoot and repair tarp systems, including component replacement and adjustments
Test equipment and systems to ensure performance and safety standards are met
Assist with welding or fabrication for repairs (training available; prior experience a plus)
Safely back trucks into bays as needed (no road driving required)
Document work performed and maintain daily repair logs
Communicate repair status, timelines, and any additional needs with the sales/service desk
Maintain a safe and organized work environment, following all company safety practices (LO/TO, PPE, fall protection, etc.)
Qualifications
Previous mechanic, trailer, or automotive repair experience helpful, but not required — we will train the right candidate
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
Ability to use handheld and power tools safely and effectively
Welding or fabrication experience preferred, but not required
Basic electrical knowledge a plus
Forklift certification (CDL not required, but ability to move trailers is); willingness to train internally for lifts
Ability to work efficiently under deadlines while maintaining attention to detail
Understanding of safe work practices (Lockout/Tagout, PPE, fall protection)
Must be physically able to work with heavy equipment and outdoors as needed
