Duration of Appointment: 8/7/2024-5/21/2025
Schedule: Schedule is at discretion of supervisor
Evaluation Procedures: Student workers are evaluated on a continuing basis
Scope: The Outreach Specialist will work with Wellness Center staff and other members of the campus community to develop, advertise, and implement outreach programs throughout the academic year. Other duties include general clerical and logistical support for Wellness Center operations.
Responsibilities:
The outreach specialist will learn about confidentiality and the need to maintain confidentiality in their role as a representative of the Wellness Center. They will demonstrate their agreement to maintain confidentiality by signing the Wellness Center's confidentiality agreement.
Partner with Wellness staff and other members of the campus community in developing and implementing outreach programs that promote the physical, emotional, and interpersonal wellness of students. Outreach programs may include (but are not limited to) topics such as adjusting to college, identity, substance use, relationships, body image and eating behaviors, stress, sexual health, infection control, sleep, and more.
Assist Wellness staff in managing Wellness Center social media accounts.
General clerical/office tasks
Scheduling: Although the Wellness Center is open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm, outreach programs can occur at various times throughout the week. It is preferable for the outreach specialist to have some flexibility for working evening hours at times; however, the majority of work would be during regular office hours. The number of hours worked each week is collaboratively determined but is typically 6-8 hours.

The Outreach Specialist will need a basic understanding of health and wellness. A strong candidate for this position will have taken classes or otherwise garnered knowledge in physical, emotional, and interpersonal health or demonstrates a willingness to gain such knowledge.
The Outreach Specialist will need to demonstrate a certain level of comfort dealing with sensitive wellness topics and discussing them with other students and members of the campus community.
The Outreach Specialist will need to demonstrate a certain level of creativity and skill in developing, advertising, and implementing outreach programs. Wellness Center staff reserve the right to ask for samples of creativity.
The Outreach Specialist will need to demonstrate basic skills in event planning and collaborating with others. A strong candidate for this position will have previously worked with student groups or other organizations to plan events.
The Outreach Specialist will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be utilized as they interact with the campus community and represent the Wellness Center at outreach programs, in social media posts, or in planning meetings.
