Controller Location: Remote (United States) Employment Type: Full-Time About PlayersTV PlayersTV is the athlete-owned media network redefining sports and entertainment through original content, storytelling, and athlete-driven experiences. We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Controller to oversee our accounting operations and financial reporting. This role will play a critical part in ensuring accurate financial management, strengthening accounting processes, maintaining compliance, and providing timely financial insights to support business growth. Position Summary The Controller will oversee all aspects of PlayersTV’s accounting function, including financial reporting, general ledger management, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, compliance reporting, and month-end close processes. This is a hands-on accounting leadership role for someone who enjoys both managing day-to-day accounting responsibilities and improving processes to support a growing organization. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with leadership and operational teams. Key Responsibilities Own the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Prepare and maintain GAAP-compliant financial statements and supporting schedules. Manage cash flow tracking, forecasting, and reporting. Oversee payroll accounting processes, including payroll reconciliations, payroll-related journal entries, and payroll reporting. Manage payroll tax compliance processes, including oversight of payroll tax account registrations, state tax requirements, and required filings. Ensure timely preparation and submission of quarterly payroll tax filings and other required federal and state financial reporting. Maintain compliance with state registrations, business entity requirements, and applicable financial reporting obligations. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Maintain accurate financial records and ensure proper account reconciliations. Coordinate annual audits and work with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial partners. Ensure compliance with applicable financial reporting requirements. Prepare financial reports and analysis for executive leadership. Manage and optimize accounting systems, processes, and workflows. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, automate processes, and strengthen financial operations. Support budgeting and forecasting activities. Partner with internal teams, including HR, Operations, and leadership, on financial processes and reporting needs. Assist with special projects and other financial initiatives as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar accounting leadership role. Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience managing the full accounting cycle, including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, and month-end close. Experience preparing financial statements and management reports. Experience managing payroll-related accounting and compliance processes. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a startup or high-growth company environment. Experience building and improving accounting processes and internal controls. Experience managing multi-state payroll tax compliance, state registrations, and financial reporting requirements. Experience with accounting and financial operations platforms such as QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Bill.com, NetSuite, or similar systems. Experience managing financial operations in a remote environment. Media, entertainment, technology, or digital media industry experience is a plus. CPA certification preferred but not required.
