Location: Henrico, VAEmployment Type: Full-Time, Direct HireCompensation: Starts at $100,000 annually (higher based on experience)Role OverviewWe are seeking a Mid-Level Controls Engineer to join the Engineering team. This role provides hands-on support for process control systems, automation projects, and site operations in a regulated manufacturing environment. The position supports PLC-based systems, SCADA platforms, HMIs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and industrial electrical systems while ensuring compliance with cGMP and applicable regulatory requirements.This role works independently on assigned tasks and collaborates with Engineering, Operations, IT, Quality, and external vendors.Primary ResponsibilitiesAutomation & Project SupportSupport execution of process control and automation projectsAssist with scope development, scheduling, vendor coordination, equipment specification, and project closeoutSpecify, configure, program, and test PLCs, SCADA systems, HMIs, drives, and related control systemsProvide limited support for facility electrical systems related to automation projectsTechnical Support & TroubleshootingTroubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment and SCADA systemsDiagnose issues involving drives, control panels, industrial networks, and instrumentationProvide technical recommendations to improve system reliabilitySystem Maintenance & ComplianceSupport systems in a validated/verified state consistent with regulatory requirementsAssist with documentation, backups, archiving, and data integrity activitiesSupport system upgrades, recovery efforts, and vendor coordinationChange Management & DocumentationSupport site change control processesAssist with control system standards and verification activitiesParticipate in audits and technical reviewsSafety & ComplianceFollow all safety and cGMP requirementsComplete required technical and compliance trainingRequired QualificationsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field required5-10 years of experience in control systems and automation within a manufacturing environmentExperience in regulated or cGMP environments preferredStrong PLC and industrial automation experience requiredTechnical SkillsHands-on experience with PLCs and SCADA systemsKnowledge of HMIs, VFDs, servos, and industrial electrical systemsExperience with industrial networking and troubleshootingAbility to read electrical schematics and control documentationStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentWork EnvironmentOccasional off-shift or emergency support for a 24x5 manufacturing operationExposure to industrial equipment and electrical systemsAbility to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 lbs. with proper PPECompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary starting at $100,000 (based on experience)Medical, dental, and vision coverageCompany-paid short-term disability and life insurance401(k) with company match and immediate vestingPaid time off and holidaysEmployee referral programOnsite amenitiesOpportunities for career growth and advancementWe may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses.
