In this role, you will be responsible for various tasks, including supporting the accounting team, taking ownership to help overcome challenges, monitoring and implementing internal controls and policies, ensuring a timely close cycle, managing journal entries, and reviewing accounting information for accuracy. This position requires strong attention to detail, must have excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation, and great organizational abilities. The Assistant Controller must value excellence within their work and will maintain the integrity of accounting records and files.Essential DutiesOversee Mesa's core accounting operations, ensuring tasks are completed timely and accurately.Assist in the formulation and monitoring of internal controls and policies to comply with GAAP and established best practices.Regularly review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.Assist in the preparation of data for financial reporting and participate in the monthly financial review process with company leadership.Build a high-performing accounting team through direct supervision, mentorship, and professional development.Participate as a key member of the annual audit exercise.Improve processes and implement efficiencies, such as automating repetitive, manual accounting tasks.Manage journal entries, invoices, etc., and reconcile accounts for the monthly and annual close processes.Assist in the preparation of budgets or forecasts where needed.All other duties assigned.QualificationsEducationRequired4 Year / Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university.ExperienceRequired7 years of accounting experience.3 years of supervisory experience as an accounting manager, assistant controller or controller.Honorably discharged service veterans are preferred.Certifications, Licenses & RegistrationsRequiredCPA (Certified Public Accountant)PreferredCMA (Certified Management Accountant)Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesWorking knowledge of at least one accounting package.
