If you are a board certified or board eligible medical physicist eager to contribute to a nationally accredited cancer care program, we invite you to explore a career with us.Your RoleThe Medical Physicist is responsible for ensuring safe therapeutic radiological physics within the Radiation Oncology Department. This includes maintaining equipment safety, providing quality patient care, and offering educational support in line with the standards set by regulatory bodies and the medical community. Our services include SRS, SBRT, IMRT, DIBH, gating, SGRT, and 3D Conformal techniques. The Cancer Institute operates two linear accelerators: TomoTherapy Hi-Art and Varian TrueBeam, with record and verification managed through Aria. Planning is conducted using Eclipse and Tomoplan software. In addition to participating in treatment procedures, the Medical Physicist will engage in patient-specific QA, chart QA, linear accelerator QA, plan evaluations, and provide any necessary support to our radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, and therapists.Our department boasts a talented team comprising 2 Physicists, 2 Dosimetrists, 8 Radiation Therapists, 3 RNs, 2 Office Secretaries, 1 Billing and Coding Coordinator, 1 Social Worker, and 1 Office Manager. Additionally, two Radiation Oncologists are present on-site daily, treating an average of 35 patients across our two machines. Collaboration with our expanding Medical Oncology group and interdisciplinary team is a key aspect of our work.Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will possess a Master's or PhD degree, be board eligible with plans for certification, or already be board certified by the ABR or ABMP. Registration as a Radiation Therapy Physicist in Iowa is required. Working alongside the Chief of Physics, the successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in the calibration and commissioning of linear accelerators and other radiation sources, conduct quality assurance for equipment and treatment plans, and implement new technologies as necessary.
