Founded in 1909 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church, The Bishop’s School is an independent, all gender college-preparatory day school for 800 students in grades six through twelve. The School is located on a historic campus in the heart of La Jolla, just 10 miles north of downtown San Diego. Additionally, over $5 million in need-based grants is awarded annually.The Bishop’s School is seeking a High School Girls' Varsity Basketball Coach for the 2026-27 season.Summary Description:The Bishop’s School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable High School Girls’ Basketball Coach to lead and develop student-athletes in our girls’ basketball program. The coach will oversee all aspects of the program including practices, competitions, player development, and team culture. This position requires a commitment to fostering individual growth, teamwork, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence while upholding the School’s mission and core values in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.The successful candidate will be a motivated, highly organized, and self-directed individual who can effectively multitask and handle a variety of matters independently in a professional, trustworthy and mature manner with tact, diplomacy, and appropriate judgment.Responsibilities Include:Ensure compliance with applicable team or individual rulesOrganize and lead daily practicesRun home matches using the School’s scoring systemTransport students in a school vehicle if necessaryCommunicate with student athletes to understand their goals and ambitionsAssess the strengths of individual athletes and teach them to use them effectively and improve their overall skillsMonitor and evaluate progress of student athletesKeep records and documentation of and prepare appropriate reportsOther duties as assignedGeneral Expectations:Uphold and model the School’s mission and core valuesDemonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a positive attitude in all interactionsStay informed about coaching best practices, safety standards, and developments in high school athleticsMake thoughtful and ethical decisions in both routine and high-pressure situationsMaintain a safe, clean, and organized athletic environmentContribute positively to the culture and mission of the Bishop’s athletics programPerform additional duties as assigned in support of the athletics departmentRequired Qualifications:Experience coaching basketball; working with students in grades 6–12 preferredAbility to inspire and motivate student athletesKnowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and competition standardsDemonstrated coaching and leadership skills in the sport of basketballAbility to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, and colleaguesDeep knowledge of and commitment to adhering to relevant regulations and standards Outstanding communication and interpersonal skillsStrong work ethic with a proactive, responsible, and reliable approachKnowledge of strength and conditioning principles appropriate for student-athletesHighly organized, self-directed, and able to manage multiple responsibilities effectivelyAbility to collaborate with members of the athletics department and the broader school communityIntermediate proficiency with Google Workspace and Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new systems as neededFlexibility to work within an academic calendar that may require evening, weekend, and seasonal commitmentsCommitment to the School’s core values of integrity, compassion, inclusion, intellect, excellence, and justiceAbility to anticipate and support the needs of student-athletes and the athletics departmentExcellent organizational and problem solving abilityValid driver’s licensePreferred Certifications:NFHS Fundamentals of CoachingFirst Aid and CPR Training and certificationNFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest NFHS Concussion TrainingNFHS Heat Illness TrainingAnticipated compensation is $30 - $50 per hour, based on experience. The 2026-27 season schedule is November 7th - March 13th.
