Campaign Intern

Join the Alex Valdez for Hudson County Commissioner campaign as we work towards electing Alex Valdez as the Democratic nominee for Hudson County Commissioner for District 9 in the Democratic primary on June 2nd. Our campaign is powered by grassroots support and is dedicated to serving the people of District 9 – East Newark, Harrison, Kearny, Jersey City and Secaucus – and ensuring our communities are affordable, safe, and clean for the next generation. We are seeking interns to join our campaign team for the Primary Election. The program will run through Friday, June 5th. As the only contested Commissioner primary in Hudson County, this is a hands-on opportunity to gain real experience on a competitive, community-driven campaign and play a meaningful role within our team executing our campaign plan. You will have the opportunity to embed directly with Alex, the senior campaign team, and important stakeholders in District 9 to gain insight into the day-to-day of a competitive political campaign, build essential skills, and significantly contribute to helping us win. We are a small, nimble, and hardworking campaign team, and interns will get to be as enmeshed in the campaign as they want to be!What You'll Do:Assist with field organizing, including attending and leading Direct Voter Contact efforts like canvassing, phone banking, & community outreach eventsUtilize the VAN voter file database to optimize direct voter contact strategiesAnalyze election data to inform strategic campaign decisionsHelp with campaign operations, including volunteer coordination and event planningConduct research on local organizations, stakeholders, and issuesAid with campaign fundraising, including candidate call timeDesign text-based, graphic and video social contentCapture high-quality pictures and videos for various campaign needs across District 9Edit photos and videos to create polished and engaging digital contentHave clear access to, and work closely with, senior campaign staff on day-to-day prioritiesWhat You’ll GainDirect experience in political campaigning and grassroots organizingExposure to different campaign departments including field, fundraising, communications, and campaign strategyOpportunities to build relationships with community leaders and organizersA strong understandingSkills and QualificationsPassionate about public service, politics, or community organizingOrganized, reliable, and eager to learn and growAbility to work flexibly and adapt to changing schedules and demandsExcellent communication and teamwork skills.Commitment to the values and goals of Democrats in Hudson County.Regular access to a vehicle or another way to travel around the district is preferred.Some experience working or volunteering for political campaigns is a plus. Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi or Gujarati language proficiency is a plus.DetailsLocation: Hybrid (HQ in Kearny, events elsewhere in Hudson County, and some remote work)Regular access to a vehicle or another way to travel around the district is preferredTime Commitment: Flexible (10–20 hours per week preferred)Compensation: Unpaid; academic credit available
