ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SEASONAL MAINTENANCE(PARKS STEWARD PROGRAM)DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION AND CEMETERYCITY OF WORCESTERThe City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Director of Seasonal Maintenance for the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery. Under the direction of the Seasonal Maintenance Director, this position is responsible for supervising, planning, and implementing comprehensive park maintenance for the community. Work involves assisting the Director with supervision and leadership of seasonal park maintenance staff. Work is performed in accordance with standard park maintenance practices and procedures. This is a seasonal position, with an approximate end date of August 31, 2026.Bilingual applicants are encouraged to applyESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:Oversee the activities of seasonal crew supervisors and maintenance workers to ensure assigned work details are being performed and safety protocols are followedPerform general landscaping duties and removal of trash from assigned areasAbility to work independently and supervise small groups of peopleComplete weekly time sheets, work details, and record keepingOperate small machine equipment (lawn mowers, trimmers, & leaf blowers)Instruct seasonal crew supervisors and maintenance workers in proper operation of equipmentAbility to work in accordance with City of Worcester standard park/cemetery maintenance practices & proceduresRespond appropriately to situations requiring first-aidPerform manual tasks requiring some physical exertionREQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Ability to work in a variety of weather conditionsAbility to interact with patrons and the general public in a proper and professional mannerAbility to Respond to emergency situationsAbility to perform manual tasks requiring physical exertionAbility to lift up to 50 poundsWork in a variety of weather conditionsAbility to work within wooded areas, on trails and in minimally accessible areasAbility to work up to thirty-five (35) hours per weekMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:High School Diploma or equivalentTwo (2) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projectsOne (1) year of experience in custodial workBasic administrative abilitiesValid Driver's LicenseMust be at least 18 years of ageMust be able to pass CORI/SORIPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Associates degree in a related fieldTwo (2) years of experience in general maintenance and/or landscapingThree (3) years of experience in a supervisory role with general maintenance or landscaping projectsExperience working with hand- held radios and operating communication systemsDemonstrated basic administrative abilities to write reports and ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite programsCertification in First Aid and CPR/AEDSALARY: $18.00 hourly, seasonal, non-benefitted
