Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball
The Assistant Coach, Men's Basketball, assists the Head Coach with all phases of a competitive intercollegiate basketball program. Grounded in a strong understanding of the role of NCAA and Division III athletics in the educational process, the Assistant Coach supports the Athletic Department in creating an environment that promotes the physical, intellectual, and social development and well-being of student-athletes. The Assistant Coach also assists the Head Coach in recruiting quality student-athletes, who embody the values of Elmhurst University and represent it well in all contexts.Position Status: ExemptSalary Range: $45,000 - $50,000. This is the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary offered will depend on a candidate's experience and education, and departmental budget.ResponsibilitiesAssists the Head Men's Basketball Coach with all phases of a competitive Division III programCoordinates with the Assistant Director of Athletics to ensure all student-athletes meet applicable eligibility requirements and prepares all necessary documents for participation in a timely mannerAssists in tracking academic progress of Men's Basketball student-athletesAssists in the development and execution of practice and game plansSatisfactorily passes the NCAA Division III Coaches Certification testAssists in recruiting and assigned an area from which to produce commitments to the institutionAssists in out-of-season athletic activities as allowable by NCAA BylawsAssists in conducting and directing instructional camps/clinics for youth and potential recruitsAssists in Basketball Program and Athletic Department fundraising initiativesAttends and participates in all athletic staff meetings as determined by the Director of AthleticsEndorses and supports other areas within the Division of Student Affairs staff including attendance of meetings and service on committeesEndorses and supports other sports within the Athletic Department and other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics primarily through a secondary duty to be assigned by the Director of AthleticsOther ResponsibilitiesSupports the University's mission, vision and valuesSupports the Athletic Department and the University's commitment to the holistic student-athlete experienceDemonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvementPerforms other duties and completes special projects as needed and assignedRequirementsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's DegreePrior successful high school or college coaching/recruiting experience, preferably at the Division III level, with a familiarity of the CCIW and greater Chicagoland areaStrong background in all aspects of basketballStrong leadership and organization skills and self-motivationStrong communication skills, both oral and writtenSuccessful recruiting abilities, with a commitment to academic excellenceHigh level of integrityKnowledge of NCAA rules and regulationsWorking Conditions/Physical RequirementsThe essential functions of this position are primarily performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor facilities, with regular exposure to varying weather conditions, including extended periods of extreme heat and cold. Work requires frequent districtwide, statewide, and out-of-state travel for recruiting or attending athletic competitions. Required abilities include walking, navigating uneven or slippery surfaces, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods; may require lifting and transporting equipment in excess of 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; and using fine motor skills to operate and maneuver a range of athletic or training equipment.
