EDM Machinist (Electrical Discharge Machining)
NDT Solutions (NDTS), an AS9100-certified leader in advanced nondestructive inspection systems, is seeking an experienced EDM Machinist to support precision manufacturing of complex aerospace and defense components. This role is instrumental in producing tooling, fixtures, and critical parts used in NDTS’s AUSS Mobile, immersion, and robotic inspection systems. The EDM Machinist will operate and maintain Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) equipment to deliver ultra-precise components within tight tolerances, working collaboratively with design engineers, manufacturing staff, and quality assurance teams to uphold NDTS’s standards of technical excellence and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Setup, Programming & Operation
Program, set up, and operate wire, sinker, and/or machines to manufacture precision components for aerospace-grade assemblies.
Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T specifications to determine machining strategies and tool paths.
Prepare fixtures, electrodes, and setups required for each operation, ensuring part stability and repeatable accuracy.
Monitor EDM parameters — including spark gap, flushing pressure, and dielectric conditions — to ensure optimal part finish and geometry.
Quality & Documentation
Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and coordinate measuring systems.
Maintain strict dimensional accuracy and document results per NDTS’s AS9100 quality procedures.
Record setup data, offsets, and operational details in accordance with NDTS manufacturing traveler and inspection documentation.
Collaboration & Process Improvement
Partner with NDTS engineering and production teams to prototype and refine new component designs for AUSS Mobile and immersion system integration.
Contribute to process development for high-mix, low-volume precision components used in R&D and production applications.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in machining efficiency, tool life, and surface integrity.
Maintenance & Safety
Conduct preventative maintenance on machinery, and associated tooling.
Maintain a clean, organized work environment aligned with NDTS’s manufacturing standards.
Follow all company safety policies, including PPE use and safe handling of dielectric fluids and materials.
Qualifications
Required:
· Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience operating wire and/or sinker EDM machinery.
· Strong knowledge of precision machining principles, GD&T, and tight-tolerance work (±0.0002” or better).
· Ability to interpret complex aerospace drawings and 3D CAD models.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Experience with EDM controls such as Mitsubishi, Sodick, or Charmilles.
Preferred:
· Experience using CMMs and precision inspection equipment.
· Familiarity with CAD/CAM systems (e.g., Mastercam, Esprit, or Fusion 360).
· Prior work in an AS9100 or NADCAP-compliant aerospace manufacturing environment.
· Understanding of aerospace materials such as titanium, Inconel, aluminum alloys, and tool steels.
· Technical degree or machinist certification in manufacturing or precision machining.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Must be able to stand for long periods and lift to 50 lbs.
Work performed in a precision machining and assembly environment, with exposure to machining fluids and light noise typical of manufacturing operations.
