Optician and Patient Care Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION: **All applicants must apply in person** If time allows an interview will be conducted when applicant comes in to apply for position. Department Front Office and Insurance Summary/Objective This position assists in both the Front Office and Optical Department. The front office / optical assistant is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience in scheduling appointments, checking in or out, verification of insurance benefits then providing benefits counseling. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: answering all incoming phone calls, schedule managements, data entry into electronic medical record, verifying appointments, taking payments, dipsensing and adjusting glasses, dispensing contact lens orders, and opening and closing front office daily. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Responsible for fitting and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses according the patient prescription, while also providing customer service. 2. Help patient select frames and lenses, performing measurements, adjusting and repairing eyewear, processing orders, and interpreting insurance benefits. 3. Responsible for the following areas of patient care: telephone reception, greeting patients, assisting patients with forms, benefits counseling, preparing routing sheets, schedules appointments with specialists as recommended by doctor 4. Pulls insurance and scans insurance cards, collects payment 5. Collects and enters patient demographic and insurance information into the electronic medical record 6. Manages the schedule - makes, changes, and cancels appointments; verifies appointments; pre-appoints, and recalls 7. Closes front office 8. Straightens up the reception area during the day 9. Prepares bills for filing insurance 10. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned Performance Factors 1. Knowledge of what insurance plans the practice accepts: The employee is able to counsel patient on their benefits and answer questions about eligibility, deductibles and coverage. Qualifications 1. Must have computer skills and the ability to learn EMR system 2.No experience required but experience in medical reception is preferred, answering multi-line phone system and managing the patient schedule 3. Strong ability to multi-task with high degree of accuracy, attention to detail a must 4. Excellent customer service 5. Strong analytical and problem solving skills 6. Superior verbal and written skills 7. Strong interpersonal skills essential Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibility. Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
