Plant Controller
We are looking for an experienced Controller to serve as the financial backbone of our sawmill operation. This is a hands-on, site-based leadership role for a finance professional who thrives in a manufacturing environment and wants real impact on operational decisions. If you have a strong cost accounting background and enjoy working closely with production teams.What You'll DoDay-to-Day Accounting & ReportingManage general ledger, accounts payable, payroll reconciliation, and fixed assetsPrepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and corporate reporting standardsMaintain cost accounting systems covering lumber production, log procurement, and by-product salesReconcile inventory and ensure accurate valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goodsReview daily production, yield, and downtime data for financial impactEnsure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and audit requirementsBudgeting, Forecasting & Financial AnalysisLead the annual operating budget process and monthly forecast updatesAnalyze actuals vs. budget and identify key cost drivers and performance gapsProvide financial insight to support decisions on pricing, production efficiency, and capital investmentDevelop and maintain standard cost models and dashboards for leadership reviewOperations PartnershipPartner with the General Manager, Maintenance Superintendent, and Production leadership on cost control, throughput, and yield improvementParticipate in daily/weekly production meetings to keep financial data aligned with operational performanceCoach department managers on budgeting and financial accountabilityServe as the primary site contact for corporate finance, HR, and auditorsCompliance & ControlsEnsure all accounting practices comply with GAAP, corporate policy, and Louisiana regulationsMonitor payroll and labor allocations for accuracy and labor law complianceSupport ESG and environmental/safety cost tracking and reportingMaintain audit-ready documentation for internal and external reviewsWhat We're Looking ForBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred)5+ years of progressive accounting experience; manufacturing or sawmill experience strongly preferredSolid grasp of cost accounting, inventory management, and variance analysisAdvanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (UKG, Sage, SAP, or similar)Strong communicator who can translate financial data for non-finance stakeholdersComfortable working in a fast-paced, production-floor environmentWork EnvironmentThis is an on-site, full-time role at our sawmill facility. You'll work primarily in an office setting but will regularly visit production, maintenance, and yard areas. Standard business hours apply, with occasional extended hours around month-end close. PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, hi-vis vest) is required in designated production zones.
