Yes County Albany Street Address State Campus, Bldg 8, Flr 1 City Albany StateNY Zip Code12226 Duties Description The New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) provides operational support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year, supporting more than 4,900 applications for 53 New York State Agencies. Under the direction of the IT Specialist 4 (Operations), SG-25, within the Chief Technology Office/Enterprise Network Services/Projects & Operations/Physical Network & Intake/Site Coordination unit, the Information Technology Specialist 2-Hourly, NS, will perform site consultation work in support of client networking activities. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Install, relocate and remove equipment. This includes workstations (PCs), printers, servers, VOIP phones, WAPS, and data communications equipment for supported agencies; Participate in the planning and execution of all phases of projects including request analysis, site surveys, site preparation, cable troubleshooting and installation, asset management, inventory control, and network assistance; Provide detailed site surveys and onsite support for requests from all ITS-supported agencies and analyze requests and provide Rough Order Magnitude (ROM) estimates to the agencies; Submit internal ITS requests for enterprise network equipment, circuits, and cabling and monitor them start to finish; Act as the ITS liaison to the requesting State agency; Support the NYS Emergency Operations Center (EOC); Support deployments of the Emergency Remote Office (ERO); Provide 24x7x365 on-call network support, on a rotating basis, for troubleshooting and support for any emergency statewide; and This position requires travel to various sites 3-5 days per week to perform required site consultation work in support of client networking activities. Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science. OR A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology; OR 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology. OR Two years of professional experience in information technology. Promotion: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14. Transfer: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, G-18; OR in a title G-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates are encouraged to apply. Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted. Additional Comments ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. It is the policy of ITS not to hire F1 or H1 visa holders for permanent employment or to sponsor non-immigrant aliens for temporary work authorization visas or for permanent residence. If eligible, positions located in New York City will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay. For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
