Physical Therapist - Special Education (2026-2027 School Year)

To implement occupational or physical therapy related services as identified in the Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) of students with disabilities.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree in occupational or physical therapyLicensure by the Texas State Board of Occupational or Physical Therapy ExaminersSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptableSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Experience:Major Responsibilities and Duties:Performs assessments of students referred for occupational or physical therapy and determines if therapy is required to assist a student to benefit from special education.Completes written evaluation reports within required timelines.Implements direct therapy which has been documented in a student's IEP in a manner that is integrated into the student's total instructional program.Trains teachers in the use of physical modifications necessary to implement IEPs.Develops materials, equipment, and modifications appropriate to implement IEPs.Assists ARD committees in the development of student IEPs and recommends appropriate therapy service options.Recommends and orders therapy materials and equipment.Provides consultation to teachers, aides, and parents concerning IEP implementation, maintenance, and evaluation.Participates on the Special Education Assistive Technology Team.Communicates and reports student progress to teachers and parents.Complies with special education laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.Facilitates student functioning in the school setting.Coordinates with outside agencies who deliver therapy services.Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development by keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved instructional techniques.Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign.Provides direct and indirect intervention to assist students with disabilities to accomplish tasks that they would normally do for themselves if they did not have a disability and other SHARS duties as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Customer Care Skills:Mental Demands/Physical Demands:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripheralsPosture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reachingLifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travelMental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stressSalary:Commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.Days:
