Lower School - Early Elementary School Teacher

Isidore Newman School seeks a talented and dynamic Early Elementary Lower School Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The role of the Early Elementary Lower School Teacher is multifaceted. The successful applicant will possess excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate strong instructional and classroom management skills; be technologically savvy and computer literate; have an abiding interest in helping students to experience academic and social growth; be successful in working with teams; be willing to contribute to school activities outside of the assigned classroom; possess a strong understanding of the developmental level of the students they teach; and genuinely love to work with children and educators at the early elementary level.The most important qualifications include:A bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education or a related field4+ years of experience as an elementary grade educatorKnowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the early childhood/primary levelCultural competency demonstrating respect for diversity of identities and experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusionProfessional orientation toward collaboration and innovationA reflective practitioner committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learningEnthusiasm for teaching childrenA positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skillsAbility to engage, motivate and develop student learningMust meet and maintain any and all federal, state, and local requirements to work in an educational childcare setting.Significant responsibilities include: Plan and execute lessons that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the grade levelDemonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogyFacilitate the educational and social development of the studentsCreate an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learningUse instructional time effectivelyCollaborate positively with the grade level colleagues as well as other lower school faculty around teaching and learning and have a growth mindsetAssess the students in a variety of ways, both formal and informal, and use assessment to guide instruction for student growth, development, and learning. Complete report cardsContinue to grow professionally by working with instructional coaches and administration, accepting feedback throughout the evaluation process, attending in-service and professional development/training, in and outside of the school, reading professionally, and actively participating in faculty meetingsCommunicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, Curriculum ConversationsParticipate in field trips and special traditions and activities of the grade levelMaintain student records, display student work, and maintain a neat and organized environment for learningModel appropriate presence daily and ensure that students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectationsComplete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned
