Job DescriptionSoftware Engineer III - Applied AILocation: Seattle, WA (On-site, Remote options available)Description: Blue Origin is seeking a skilled Software Engineer III - Applied AI to join their enterprise search and AI team. This role focuses on developing and delivering agentic, workflow-driven search and discovery platforms, powering enterprise knowledge graphs and AI-assisted retrieval systems. You will drive technical decisions, mentor junior engineers, lead cross-functional delivery, and focus on retrieval quality, LLM evaluation, frontend engineering, and system observability.Key ResponsibilitiesLead full-stack development of search, RAG, and agentic AI applications using Python, TypeScript/React, and Java.Own retrieval pipeline quality, including design and maintenance of evaluation harnesses.Build and maintain LLM evaluation frameworks.Architect and deliver production-grade React frontends.Establish observability standards for AI systems.Design and operate AWS-based infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.Collaborate with engineers to integrate embedding models, vector databases, and reranking systems.Mentor junior engineers.Partner with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions.Contribute to engineering standards and knowledge bases.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.5+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production systems.Fluent with LLMs as a development tool.Hands-on experience building and maintaining LLM/RAG pipelines and evaluation frameworks.Strong frontend engineering skills (React, TypeScript, state management, accessibility, performance).Solid backend development in Python and/or Java (REST and GraphQL API design).Experience with observability tooling.AWS cloud experience (ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, OpenSearch, CloudWatch, IAM).Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation).Strong CI/CD practices.Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience with enterprise search platforms.Knowledge graph or graph database experience.AWS certification.Experience with agentic AI frameworks.Background in AI system reliability engineering.Familiarity with data visualization or 3D rendering.Experience in aerospace, defense, or manufacturing industries.Compensation Range (WA applicants): $164,652.00 - $230,512.80Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, disability, 401(k) with company match, Education Support Program, Stock Options, Paid Time Off, and company-paid holidays.Citizenship Requirement: U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Equal Employment Opportunity: Blue Origin is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
