Job Description
DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Director of Pre-School and After-School Programs, is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate Afterschool Program in accordance with all relevant school policies and procedures.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Provide and assist in implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children (preschool-8th grade) in the program.
Provide, document and assist in implementing weekly and monthly schedule of activities.
Provide Homework assistance.
Serve nutritious snacks.
Provide adequate equipment and activities to keep children engaged.
Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times.
Provide various experiences and activities for children including art, group games and community projects.
Establish routines and provide positive guidance.
Ensure children are visibly supervised at all times.
Provide a safe and secure environment for children to explore and feel comfortable.
Use appropriate behavior management and classroom discipline.
Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
Integrate special needs children in a positive and respectful manner.
Be familiar with and carry out emergency procedures.
Establish open communication with parents and co-workers regarding individual children’s behaviors.
Keep parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress.
Discuss identified problems and needs with professionals as appropriate.
Participate in school activities, staff meeting and trainings.
May assist in the school lunch program and supervision of students during the lunch and recess period.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
General concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics
Techniques used in controlling and motivating students
Correct English usage, punctuation, and spelling and grammar
Simple recordkeeping and record management
Microsoft Word and Excel computer programs
Ability to:

Communicate effectively with school age children
Work with a large multi-age group
Multi-task while dealing with constant interruptions
Analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
Utilize team building, stress and time management, and effective verbal and listening skills
Kneel, bend, crouch and reach constantly
Work with periods of constant movement
Safely lift and carry up to 35 pounds
Education and Experience

6-12 ECE units
Certification in First Aid and CPR (infant and child) must be obtained within 30 days of being hired and kept current throughout employment
Certification of 15 hours of Preventative Health must be obtained within 30 days of being hired
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid California DL or ID
Completion of applicable State forms
TB test clearance (updated every two years)
Pre-employment fingerprint clearance through Live Scan (upon offer of employement)
Child and adult CPR and First Aid Certification attained within the first 30 days of employment
