Job Title – Welder Reports to – Special Projects Supervisor Position Summary: The Welder will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. Work can be indoors or out. Working conditions are potentially dangerous, meaning that production welders need to wear protective gear like goggles, special hoods, and gloves. Production welders need to be aware of their working conditions and the condition of the materials they're working with to make the appropriate adjustments as needed. Essential Responsibilities · Fabrication of Aluminum, Mild steel and Stainless-steel components as required ensuring that the highest standards in finish and tolerances are under the information supplied, are achieved using sound “trade” methods. · Weld components and framework using a variety of welding processes. · Position, align and fit parts according to specifications. · Grind, sand, polish and detail fabrications to required finish using hand and power tools to a high standard. · Measure and examine completed work to verify conformance to specifications. · All Fabrication tasks are to be completed in the agreed (quoted) time frames or better. · Operation of manual machine tools, as part of the fabrication process, when required. · Machines to be kept in a tidy and well-maintained manner, which would require maintenance to be undertaken from time to time. · Maintains tools, gauges and equipment in a clean, orderly and safe manner. Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered. · Share industry knowledge/train apprentices. · Ensure that the supply of consumables, i.e. gas, welding wire etc., does not run out, which in turn could affect the job. Work with the Manager to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained. · Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job. · Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage. · Display flexibility to work in other departments and overtime as necessary to assist the company in meeting production goals. · Liaise with design team and give input into new designs. · Complete administered tasks as required. · Report drawing errors. · Be collaborative and form strong relationships with internal colleagues and customers. · Comply with all company policies, practices, and procedures. Education & Experience This position requires a high school diploma and the completion of formal apprenticeship or successful completion of an in-company, three-year training program. General knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Additionally, this role includes supporting the Group’s Lean 6S continuous improvement initiative to help deliver high-quality products and services more efficiently. Participation in improvement project teams or kaizen events, either as a team member or team leader, is also an essential part of these duties. Reasoning Ability Work is performed in a well-lighted, heated but not climate-controlled indoor production environment with adequate ventilation. Noise levels are usually loud. The employee may experience extreme heat in summer and cold in winter and be exposed to dust, fumes, vibration, and moving mechanical machinery. Requires use of common protective or safety equipment. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Computer Skills Requires basic personal computer skills including data entry. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Language Skills Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of managers or employees of organization. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization. The role involves bending, stretching, twisting, and reaching with the body, arms, and legs, as well as coordinating movements with moving equipment or objects. Employees must perceive object characteristics through touch and handling. The employee is regularly required to talk and listen. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
