Artificial Intelligence Engineer

About the CompanyCode Red Partners is partnering with a fast-growing startup at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity. As software development becomes increasingly autonomous, security has to evolve alongside it. This company is building the security layer for a world where AI agents write, review, and ship code, helping teams catch vulnerabilities and make informed decisions about what's safe to release. Backed by top-tier investors off a Series-A that values the company at $200m+, the team is rapidly growing. Leadership has held senior security roles at some of the largest companies in the world and shaped cybersecurity policy at the federal level. The culture is builder-first: low ego, high ownership, and a bias toward shipping real solutions to hard problems.About the RoleThis is a senior, research-forward AI Engineering role, roughly split between core model work and applied product engineering. The company is looking for someone who can own the model-building strategy for a core initiative, not just execute against one. You'll spend real time on model building and fine-tuning at a depth most applied AI roles never touch, while also shipping the features that put that work in front of users. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for someone with a strong track record of training and fine-tuning models in production and the judgment to set technical direction with minimal oversight.ResponsibilitiesSet technical direction for evals: build them, improve them, and use them to drive measurable gains in system qualityOwn the fine-tuning strategy end to end, from data and training approach through evaluation, to meaningfully move accuracy, reliability, and performance on hard security-relevant tasksDrive product changes that improve the company's AI systems, including prompts, retrieval, agent scaffolding, and model and tool integrationsOwn ambiguous, high-leverage problems end to end, from prototype to production, with minimal hand-holdingPartner closely with AI and product engineering leadership to shape which AI capabilities get built nextQualifications5+ years of software engineering or ML experience, with a strong recent track record of training or fine-tuning LLMs, not just applied prompting or integration workA track record of building on LLMs and measurably improving AI system performance at scaleDeep hands-on experience with LLM evaluation and a point of view on how to build it wellExperience shipping production code and owning features end to end, ideally including technical leadership of a project or small teamSelf-directed and product-minded, with the judgment to take ownership of ambiguous, high-stakes projects with limited oversightExperience with an agent orchestration frameworksPreferred SkillsExperience with code generation and/or securityInfrastructure or DevOps experience (CI/CD, cloud, observability)Experience working at high-growth startups as an engineer or founderOpen-source contributions or public technical writing (blogs, benchmarks, demos)Pay range and compensation package$250K to $350K base, meaningful equity, and full benefitsEqual Opportunity StatementAt Code Red Partners, we're deeply committed to working with equal-opportunity employers and helping to build a diverse and inclusive workforce.
