Safety Manager
Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing safety programs across all field operations, with a primary focus on Outside Plant (OSP) functions-including Engineering, Construction, and Splicing-as well as Field Services. This role ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations while fostering a strong culture of safety throughout the organization.
This position reports to the VP of Outside Plant Construction, with a dotted-line relationship to Human Resources to ensure consistency in policy enforcement, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Field Safety Oversight
Conduct regular job site visits, audits, and safety inspections across all OSP functions, including Engineering, Construction, and Splicing, as well as Field Services teams
Identify hazards and implement corrective actions in real time
Ensure proper use of PPE, equipment, and safe work practices
Partner with field leadership to reinforce safety expectations and accountability
Compliance & Regulatory Management
Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations
Maintain OSHA logs and required safety documentation
Lead internal and external safety audits and inspections
Stay current on regulatory changes and implement updates as needed
Incident Management
Lead investigations for all safety incidents, near misses, and injuries
Determine root cause and implement corrective/preventative actions
Partner with HR on documentation, disciplinary actions, and reporting
Track and trend incidents to identify areas for improvement
Training & Safety Programs
Develop and deliver safety training programs for new hires and existing employees
Conduct toolbox talks and ongoing field safety education
Ensure employees are properly trained and certified for their roles
Maintain training records and compliance tracking
Policy Development & Enforcement
Develop, update, and enforce company safety policies and procedures
Partner with HR to ensure alignment with company handbook and policies
Ensure consistent enforcement of safety standards across all departments
Safety Culture & Communication
Promote a proactive safety culture across the organization
Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership on safety matters
Communicate safety expectations clearly to all levels of the organization
Provide regular safety updates and reporting to leadership
Qualifications
3-7+ years of safety experience in construction, telecommunications, utilities, or related field
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
Experience working in field-based environments (OSP, fiber, utility, or similar)
Proven ability to influence and enforce safety in operational environments
Strong investigation, documentation, and organizational skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 30 certification (or higher)
CPR/First Aid certification
Experience in telecom or fiber construction environments
Safety-related certification (e.g., CHST, CSP)
