Registered Nurse Pre-Operative & Post Anesthesia Care

The Registered Nurse (RN), Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.Aurora Colorado Visitor CenterProvides specialized nursing care in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients throughout the peri-anesthesia continuum, including the pre-anesthesia phase, post-anesthesia Phase I, post-anesthesia Phase II, and extended care following sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures.Possesses knowledge related to physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical inventions.Assesses and prepares patients for procedures appropriately.Performs clinical assessment of the patient and readily recognizes contraindication for anesthesia and/or surgical intervention.Applies the appropriate post sedation scoring and assess the patient's postoperative status to include cardiovascular and respiratory systems and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain, and comfort needs and mental status, implementing appropriate interventions to maintain or return all physiological system to baseline or above.Maintains knowledge of current American Society of peri anesthesia nurses (ASPAN) standards, Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Directives and service level standard operation procedures (SOP's).Administers medications and follows procedures per established policies and guidelines.Influences outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.Observes extended care from sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures.Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of healthcare professionals.Partners with others to effect change and produce optimal outcomes.Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care.Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers.Questions clinical practices for the purpose of providing evidence-based care.Participates in activities and strategies to sustain an evidence-based-practice culture.May be required to perform on-call duties.VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total RewardsPay: Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awardsPaid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territoryWork Schedule: 10 hour shifts with variable start times 5:30am, 7:30am or 9:30amCompressed/Flexible: AvailableTelework: Not availableVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorizedPermanent Change of Station (PCS): Not authorizedPCS Appraised Value Offer (AVO): Not authorized
