Overview
Golden Plains Community Hospital is seeking a Controller to lead and direct all financial activities including accounting, finance forecasting, financial reporting, payor contract management, and control/monitoring of financial functions. The Controller will prepare and oversee monthly financial statements, quarterly and annual cash flow forecasts, and operating and capital budgets. The Controller will supervise all financial activities and act as a liaison between department heads regarding department budget reports. Other responsibilities include year-end audits, revenue cycle, reimbursement, and internal, external, and regulatory requirements. The Controller will lead by example to uphold the hospital's values and mission.
Responsibilities
Provide oversight of the preparation of and analytical review of financial and statistical budgets for assigned entities
Provide oversight of all budget reporting comparing actual results to budget standards
Complete analytical review and follow up with department heads regarding material budget variances
Audit Management: review engagement letters, management representation letters, management letter comments, and all auditor communications
Coordinate the timing and presentation of audits including fieldwork arrangements, reviews by CFO and CEO, and board presentations
Prepare analytical reviews and selected audit schedules
Adhere to all accounting professional standards and departmental policies and procedures
Internal Control Structure: design and oversight of the organization's financial internal control structure
Design, maintain, and oversee accounting department policies and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
Review and authorize disbursements and expenditures
Manage cash and cash equivalents to ensure adequate reserves for operations and investment of excess cash reserves
Departmental Management: select, train and evaluate Accounting staff; supervise staff productivity and manage overtime; manage departmental costs per budget
Provide leadership and oversight of safety standards and program for departmental staff
Personal Responsibilities: comply with hospital policies, confidentiality, safety, infection control, and other environmental regulations
Collaborate with others to improve organizational performance and support goals and objectives
Meet organizational standards for attendance, punctuality, and break times
Maintain and enhance competency through in-services, staff meetings, and educational programs
Observe dress code per organizational and departmental standards
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
Prior healthcare experience with prior management experience required
Proficiency in word processing applications, spreadsheets, and computer-based accounting and information systems
Written and oral communication skills to present financial information to department managers and clinical personnel without a financial background; poise, confidence and tact to interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
Experience with Grant Writer work is preferred
