GIS Analyst - Planning and Development

DescriptionUnder general supervision of theData Services Manager, the GIS Analyst provides analytical services to the Planning and Development Services Department using the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS) and manages the daily activities of assigned staff. Job duties includeanalyzing and digitizing spatial and tabular data to produce maps and related products; writing computer applications; creating database queries; and ensuring data integrity by performing continuous maintenance activities to enhance and update the Planning and Development Services GIS information.Principal Duties Maintain the Planning and Development Services GIS layers by inputting and correcting data, researching data conversions, establishing data specifications, updating resources (maps, databases, and scanned images), and ensuring data accuracy. Integrate and perform analyses on spatial and tabular data from a variety of sources and other applications, create database queries, and develop reports utilizing a variety of data sources. Develop GIS applications; design and edit custom templates, scripts, and macros to meet project parameters or customer needs; and develop automation or customized routines to enhance GIS applications and increase departmental productivity. Research and implement new GIS technology, software, and practices. Facilitate the development and implementation of protocols for the Planning and Development Services data within the City GIS system. Act as a technical resource in assisting Planning and Development Services staff with technical issues. Fulfill internal and external requests for Planning and Development Services GIS related information to include developing graphic presentations, charts, graphs, maps, and reports. Perform related duties as assigned.QualificationsRequired:Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Science or related technical field and two (2) years or more years related experience using Geographic Information Systems; or an equivalent combination of education andKnowledge and experience with MS Windows, Windows-based applications, ESRI ArcGIS, Visual Basic programming language, SQL database language, and GIS/GPS principles and practicesExcellent written and oral communication skillsPreferredFive (5) years of GIS work experienceMaster’s degree in GIS or GIS related fieldOne (1) or more years of supervisory or leadership experienceProgramming experience with VBA, ArcObjects, and PythonSupplemental InformationSpecial Requirements Drug Screening: Due to the safety and/or security sensitive nature of this position, individuals shall be subject to pre-employment or pre-placement drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policy.Position posted until filled or closing date.
