Position Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Safety Specialist to lead our safety initiatives within the sawmill operations. The Safety Specialist will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This role requires a strong understanding of sawmill operations, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices to mitigate risks and promote a culture of safety. Primary Duties: Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures specific to sawmill operations, ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements. Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of the sawmill facility to identify hazards and implement corrective measures. Analyze workplace incidents and near misses to determine root causes, providing recommendations and strategies for prevention. Develop and deliver safety training programs for all employees, including proper operation of machinery, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response procedures. Promote a culture of safety through ongoing communication, safety meetings, and employee engagement initiatives. Collaborate with management and staff to create a proactive safety environment, encouraging employee feedback and participation in safety programs. Maintain accurate records of safety training, incidents, inspections, and compliance documentation. Stay informed about industry regulations, trends, and advancements in safety practices to continuously improve the sawmill's safety program. Respond to safety-related emergencies and incidents, conducting investigations and reporting findings to management. Serve as the primary contact for safety-related inquiries and compliance audits by regulatory agencies. Required Skills: Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and industry standards related to sawmill operations. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels. Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
