Our medically supervised detox and structured residential programs support clients at every stage of recovery through individualized treatment, life skills development, and holistic interventions.We proudly serve the Virginia Peninsula, including the Tidewater and Hampton Roads regions, and accept all forms of Virginia Medicaid to ensure accessible, high-quality care for our community.Position SummaryThe Assessment Counselor plays a critical role in the admissions process, serving as a key clinical team member responsible for welcoming and assessing incoming clients. This position ensures a smooth, supportive, and clinically appropriate intake experience by conducting assessments, coordinating documentation, and collaborating with internal teams to facilitate timely admissions.This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-centered environment.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct clinical screenings and level-of-care assessments in accordance with ASAM and/or LOCUS criteriaFacilitate appropriate admissions to detox and residential levels of careComplete assessments, intake documentation, and authorizations in a timely and compliant mannerManage admission pre-certifications with funding sources, ensuring accuracy and clinical justificationCollaborate with clinical, nursing, and administrative teams to ensure a seamless intake experienceProvide referrals to community resources and external agencies, as appropriateProvide occasional coverage for other evaluation clinicians within the regionDeliver assessment services to referral sources such as justice centers, jails, and other behavioral health or forensic settings, as neededParticipate in required trainings and maintain all necessary credentialsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsRequired:Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Chemical Dependency, or a related fieldActive licensure or credentialing (e.g., Resident in Counseling, LPC, LCSW)PreferredExperience with substance use and co-occurring disordersFamiliarity with ASAM and/or LOCUS criteriaWhat You BringStrong clinical assessment and decision-making skillsCompassion, professionalism, and the ability to support individuals in crisisExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teamsJoin Our TeamIf you are a dedicated, mission-driven clinician looking to make a meaningful impact, we encourage you to apply.
