This position will oversee the resolution of construction bodily injury and construction defect claims with low to high complexity and provide direction, coaching, and training. This position will report to the Senior Director of claims and be responsible for conveying the organization's objectives and priorities to staff and measure progress towards stated goals.ResponsibilitiesConfirms coverage of claims by reviewing policies and documents submitted in support of claimsDirect and monitor assignments of new loss activity for construction bodily injury and construction defect claimsReview and approve correspondence and reports including coverage position letters and Large Loss ReportsReview and approve reserves and settlements in excess of the authority of the handling specialistMake recommendations concerning reserve changes to Senior Director or Senior ManagementParticipate in review and discussion of large loss activity in the general liability book with interested stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial, Executive Management)Ensure that team adheres to Fair Claims Practices regulations and internal performance objectivesAssess and evaluate individual specialist and team performance, provide feedback and develop training needsPrepare and distribute reports by collecting and summarizing informationAssist in preparation of budgets, evaluation of expenses and assess resource needsFoster and encourage strong relationships with internal stakeholders (Underwriting, Actuarial)Promote and enhance strong relationships with customers and channel partnersParticipate in special projects as requestedTravel to other claim offices, mediations, trials, and conferences as requiredEducation* Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience* JD, advanced degree, or focused technical degree a plusCertificationMust have or be eligible to receive claims adjuster licenseSuccessful achievement of industry designations (INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, CPCU) orI-Lead or other Management TrainingQualificationsMinimum of 10 years of claims handling experience or equivalent combination of education and experienceSuccessful completion of 5 years as a Senior Claims Specialist or Executive Claims Specialist a plusExcellent written and oral communication skillsStrong analytical and problem solving skillsStrong organization and time management skillsAbility to deliver outstanding customer serviceIntermediate skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word)Ability to work in a team environmentStrong desire for continuous improvementMarkel offers hybrid working schedules of 3 days in the office and 2 days remote.#LI-Hybrid#LI-SYUS Work AuthorizationUS Work Authorization required. Markel does not provide visa sponsorship for this position, now or in the future.Pay information:The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
