From how we treat our employees to how we deliver each project; these values lead the way and set the standard for our success.BASIC FUNCTIONS:The Heavy Civil Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, grading, and infrastructure improvements. This role evaluates project documentation, scopes of work, and site conditions to prepare detailed bids and budgets, while coordinating closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and clients. The Heavy Civil Estimator supports preconstruction and project startup activities and plays a key role in securing new work.ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:Estimating & Bid DevelopmentAnalyze bid documents, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work for heavy civil projects to develop complete and accurate estimates.Perform detailed and well-documented quantity takeoffs for earthwork, concrete, utilities, materials, equipment, labor, and subcontracted work.Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and budgets that reflect current market conditions, production rates, and project-specific requirements.Identify assumptions, exclusions, scope gaps, and potential risks related to site conditions, phasing, logistics, and constructability; prepare clear bid clarifications as required.Subcontractor & Vendor CoordinationSolicit, review, and level subcontractor and vendor pricing to ensure accuracy, competitiveness, and alignment with project scope.Coordinate with material suppliers, equipment vendors, and subcontractors for pricing related to heavy civil operations.Apply market knowledge and negotiation skills to support value-driven pricing and cost-saving opportunities.Maintain professional relationships with subcontractors and vendors throughout the bidding process.Pre-Construction & Project HandoffSupport preconstruction efforts including conceptual estimating, budgeting, cost analysis, and value engineering.Manage multiple bids and deadlines concurrently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and organization.Submit bids and related documentation in accordance with established timelines and company procedures.Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams to ensure a smooth handoff from estimating to project start-up.Client & Stakeholder CommunicationMaintain professional relationships with clients, engineers, owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.Track and follow up on submitted bids and assist with client communications as needed.Communicate clearly and professionally in all written and verbal interactions related to estimating and project coordination.EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of three years of estimating experience in heavy civil, civil, or construction environments.Experience estimating earthwork, utilities, concrete, grading, or infrastructure projects preferred.Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Project, and Word.Experience with estimating software and digital takeoff tools preferred.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Ability to pass a preemployment drug screen.Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management, clients, and team members.Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team environment.Strong organizational skills with the ability to learn quickly and manage multiple priorities.BENEFITS:Competitive WagePaid Time OffMedical InsuranceDental InsuranceVision Insurance401k PlanI&E Construction is an equal-opportunity employer.
