Staff Accountant, Inventory/Tax

Job DescriptionStaff Accountant, Inventory/TaxREPORTS TO: Accounting ManagerSTATUS: This is a full-time non-exempt positionSUMMARY: This position is responsible for preparing excise/sales tax reconciliations, submitting inventory related regulatory reports, and assisting with inventory accounting operations as needed.STAFF: NoneDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Prepare excise and sales tax reconciliations that match taxable sales and fuel movements to the tax payable liabilities.2. Compile the inventory transaction documents for barge voyages (sales, plant transfers, purchases, etc.) and record inventory movement into accounting system; investigate and remedy discrepancies as needed. Prepare hedge settlement allocations for the supply barge voyages as needed.3. Process customer account exemptions for federal, state, and local authorities; reconcile exemptions to documentation on file monthly.4. Prepare regulatory reports for bulk inventory movement monthly.5. Prepare FIFO inventory cost corrections to accounting system monthly.6. Work with remote plants to reconcile bulk fuel tankage reports monthly.7. Assist in the researching and reconciling of GL accounts to ensure the accurate recording of financial data with respect to various contracts and GAAP.8. Other work-related duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager including cross-training within the accounting department.QUALIFICATIONSCandidates will meet one of the following requirements:1. High school diploma or equivalent and at least 4 years of office experience in an accounting department, or2. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related business field.Please note: Undergraduate coursework in a related business field may substitute for experience. We are willing to develop the right candidate with on-the-job experience.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES• Requires an understanding of Microsoft's Suite of products, primarily Excel, Teams, and Outlook.• Must be capable of working effectively under time constraints to comply with reporting requirements.• Must have excellent communication skills and be effective in oral and written communication.• Must have ability to work independently and think critically with minimal oversight to complete assigned duties by target deadlines.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSLANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret technical regulatory compliance documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or regulatory agencies. Ability to write and effectively communicate utilizing e-mail. Ability to communicate effectively with all employees and facilitate problem resolutions.PHYSICAL DEMANDSIndividuals may need to sit or stand as needed. May require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods throughout the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to move hardware. Proper lifting techniques required.
