Registered Nurse PICC

Provides professional nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process. To collaborate with other members of the health care delivery team including physicians, to deliver quality health care. Primary role is the delivery of competent clinically appropriate placement of Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Lines and/or Midlines as ordered, including maintenance and care of all Central Lines.Responsibilities:Assess patients with difficult access or need for long term IV therapy for appropriate vascular access deviceWorks with staff nurses, physicians, case managers and other team members to insure early assessment for VAD selection and implementationParticipates in education with Vascular Access education with patient, family members and staffReviews physicians orderObtains consentReviews medical records for any contraindications of peripheral vascular accessDetermines the best vascular access device for the patient based on medications, current access status, diagnoses, length of IV therapy and etc.Reports directly to the Systems Director of Infection prevention & ControlTroubleshoots difficult complications of VAD's or assists staff in troubleshootingDocuments completely and accurately in the patient's permanent medical recordQualifications/Requirements:Experience:Minimum of two years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required. Infusion excperiene required, PICC experience preferred.Education:Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.Licenses / Certifications:Current New York State RN licensure required. Current BLS required. Valid PICC Insertion Certification preferred.Other:N/A Special Requirements: N/A
