Pharmacists review prescriptions for accuracy, counsel patients on proper medication use, monitor for drug interactions, and contribute to improved health outcomes across retail, hospital, and clinical settings. Key Responsibilities Review and verify prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and appropriateness Dispense medications and ensure correct labeling and dosage instructions Counsel patients on medication use, side effects, interactions, and adherence Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to optimize therapy Monitor patient medication profiles and identify drug interactions or contraindications Administer immunizations (where permitted) Manage inventory, controlled substances, and pharmacy operations Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and safety protocols Supervise pharmacy technicians and support staff Maintain accurate documentation and patient records Requirements & Qualifications Education & Licensure Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited program Active Pharmacist license (RPh) in the state of practice Successful completion of licensure exams (e.g., NAPLEX; MPJE or state law exam where applicable) Immunization certification (preferred/required in many settings) Optional Certifications (Value-Add) Board certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (e.g., BCPS, BCACP, BCOP) Medication Therapy Management (MTM) certification Specialty certifications (oncology, infectious disease, ambulatory care, etc.) Experience New graduates may be considered; residency (PGY1/PGY2) preferred for clinical roles 1–3 years of experience preferred (varies by setting) Experience in retail, hospital, clinical, or specialty pharmacy settings is a plus Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and drug interactions Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Strong communication and patient counseling skills Clinical decision-making and problem-solving ability Organizational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team High ethical standards and commitment to patient safety Work Environment Retail/community pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, specialty pharmacies, or mail-order pharmacies May require standing for long periods Flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and holidays (especially in retail) Additional Requirements Ability to pass background check and drug screening Up-to-date immunizations (for clinical/hospital roles) Compliance with federal and state pharmacy regulations Compensation & Benefits (Varies by Employer) Competitive salary Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off and holidays Continuing education and licensure reimbursement Retirement plans (e.g., 401(k)) Apply now to start your next travel adventure!
