Freight Specialist

OverviewWe are looking for a skilled and motivated Freight Specialist to join our team in Troutville, VA. This position will be responsible for managing system updates associated with rates, fuel, miles, and additional items associated with truck logistics for cement, fly ash, and aggregates. Creating rapport and communicating to logistics providers and ensuring timely and accuracy of data input.ResponsibilitiesManage entry and storage of carrier ratesMaintain organized records of communication with regards to carrier agreements via various systemsRequest rates from various carriers, communicate with Freight Supervisor for approval prior to confirming and publicationSupport Freight Supervisor in optimizing transportation costs and efficiency by completing various reports and projectsMaintain accurate records and documentationProvide support and guidance to internal teams on logistics and shipping mattersStay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practicesMaintain Fuel Surcharge and Mileage respectively for shipmentsReview, obtain approval, create and process Purchase Requisitions for parts, services, and deliveries for invoicing and payment associated with logisticsReview, obtain approval, create process and receive Purchase Orders for parts, services, deliveries, and cancellations for invoicing and payment associated with logisticsMaintain tickets for shipments to process for invoicing (Staging Area) associated with truck freightAssist with freight onboarding and create freight service POs for new haulersQualificationsBachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)Proven experience working in logistics, transportation, or a similar roleStrong understanding of freight forwarding, shipping regulations, and customs proceduresExcellent organizational and time-management skillsAbility to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasksProficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office SuiteStrong verbal and written communication skillsProblem-solving abilities and attention to detailPreferred: Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle)
